Run Away

A Frame by Dui Jarrod

RUN AWAY
(The Act of Writing)

From The Frisson and two-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker Dui Jarrod, RUN AWAY (The Act of Writing) is a live performance and free-speech space that reimagines Shakespeare’s All the World’s a Stage through the lens of the modern Black experience.

Structured as a portrait in fragments, the work unfolds across seven visual meditations on life: infancy, boyhood, love, battle, justice, aging, and rebirth. Each frame is both personal and political, weaving together image, letter, and sound into a living testimony on manhood, identity, and creative resistance.

RUN AWAY is a call to witness. A meditation on becoming. A declaration that writing itself is freedom.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

By Dui Jarrod
Debuting November 23, Brooklyn, NY — Presented by The Frisson

Exhibition Statement
General Assembly is filmmaker and artist Dui Jarrod’s first solo exhibition—a visual narrative exploring the mindset, movement, and collective spirit of Black people from an elevated view. Across ten debut works, Jarrod constructs a meditative world of texture and tone, centering calmness and ease as acts of resistance.
Inspired by the Reconstruction Era and the resourcefulness of the descendants of chattel slavery, the collection revisits materials that defined both survival and creation: denim, burlap, bleach, and canvas. These materials, once used to clothe and shelter, now serve as a canvas for reflection and beauty. Denim, once labeled slave cloth, has become one of the most universal textiles in modern fashion—an emblem of endurance and reinvention.
Through abstract forms, layered fabrics, and elemental markings, Jarrod invites the viewer to look down upon the beauty of Black assembly—our cities, our movements, our gatherings—and to witness the quiet power within them. The works pulse between structure and spontaneity, suggesting blueprints of liberation rendered through the materials of survival.
Alongside the fine art collection, Jarrod will debut his first fashion drop: hand-painted garments and totes extending the exhibition’s themes into wearable art. This merging of fashion and fine art underscores Jarrod’s commitment to creating spaces where Black creativity is not only seen, but lived.
